We held our 2nd annual Lunar New Open a couple of weeks ago, and had a great turn out. We had 4 sessions and over 50 lifters. Most importantly though, there was a lot of great lifting and of course a lot of great food. Our very own Kayla Dinh and Deangelo Jabido qualified for Junior Nationals as well. Thank you to everyone who helped out, we appreciate it very much!! And of course congratulation to our winners of the meet. Thank you to our sponsors VIRUS intl. for providing our winners with some very cool duffle bags. What a great weekend at this year University Nationals with the SENSE Gym Family in New Orleans, Louisiana ! We had a great time in one house, supported each other in competition where overall we did pretty well. Check out our instagram @sensegym for more videos our lifts!
Josh finished 1st in 105 kg division in the U25 competition. He hit a PR 187 kg, and 195 kg clean and jerk, to give him a new PR total of 345 kg. Look for some records to be broken at this upcoming American Open. This National meet was also by far, Dr. Wong's (105) best meet. Coming into this meet, he was feeling strong, well rested and more confident than he has ever been, and his lifting on the platform showed it. Expect for new personal best numbers soon. Sayuri (53) hit 54kg/72, although she didn't have her best meet, it was only her second one with SENSE gym. We are pushing for more so expect big weights to be made soon. Julie (63) hit an easy snatch opener at 64 kg, but the rest of the day didn't go as plan. She will continue to train as always and get back onto the national stage again. This is only her first year of training! Brendon Chau (85) best lifts at National University Championship was a 107 kg snatch and 122 clean and jerks. David (105+) lifted a nice meet PR total of 262 kg. He ended up with 115 kg snatch and a PR 147 kg clean and jerk. He has been working on his jerks and it is paying off! Josh at Junior Worlds in Tbilisi, Georgia
Our very own Josh Ji traveled to Tbilisi, Georgia along with the rest of Team USA to compete at the IWF Junior World Championships.
He finished off the competition with a snatch pr of 152kg/334.4lbs and a clean and jerk pr of 186kg/409.2lbs, but he definitely had more in him. He finished 8th overall at his first world championship. USAW 2016 Senior nationals/olympic trials
We had a great time at US Nationals last weekend in Salt Lake City Utah. Andrew Cheung snatched 95 and clean & jerked 120 to finish third overall in the 56 weight class and take home all three bronze medals. Vu Troung finished off with a 98 snatch and 125 clean & jerk finishing 4th overall in the 62 kg weight class.
Thanks to Jason Thai and Chris Wong for helping out in the back room. Junior Pan American championship 2016Last week, Josh Ji, Coach Nghiep Dinh, and Chris Wong (Medical Staff), along with other fellow USA junior athletes and coaches, traveled to San Salvador, El Salvador, for a week, to participate in the 2016 Junior Pan American Championships. Jr. Pan Ams was Josh's first international competition Josh's first international competition. It's an experience I will never forget. His snatch attempts were 145kg, 151kg, and a close miss at 155 kg. This was by far his best snatch day. He also clean and jerked 179kg for a 330kg total. He earned a gold in the snatch, and silvers in the clean and jerk and total in the 105kg weight class. Way to represent USA Josh! Make sure to check out Josh's lifts below or on our Youtube Channel Other highlights from Team USA included 16-year-old Harrison Maurus (77) taking a crack at the Youth World Record with a clean & jerk at 184kg (The record was later broken by Colombian Yeison Lopez who made 186kg). Maurus took home silver all around. Maddy Myers (63) also had an outstanding performance, where she won silver in the snatch, and clean & jerked 120kg for a new junior American clean and jerk and total record to earn two golds and take home the best female lifter award. Overall, Team USA was able to bring home 29 medals - six gold, fourteen silver, and nine bronze. The men's and women's team both took third overall. This junior USAW team is one of the best that I have seen in a long time! Competition mode is back on this weekend for the 2016 USA Weightlifting National Championships and U.S. Olympic Trials. SENSE has two athletes, Andrew Cheung (56) and Vu Truong (62), who will be taking the platform during the 56A/62A session on Friday, so stay tuned! |
